Academic Requirements for Readmission after Dismissal

Students who have been academically dismissed from the University may, during a later semester, request an evaluation for readmission.Readmission after academic dismissal is neither automatic nor guaranteed, and will be considered favorably only when a student’s readmission application indicates a strong probability for academic success. For more information, visit Returning to UConn. Students must meet all posted deadlines for applying for readmission, shared on Dean of Students website.

Before enrolling in additional coursework–whether at UConn or elsewhere–dismissed students should consult with their appropriate school/college and prospective/future academic area non-degree advisor to determining best options based on their unique academic and personal circumstances. Contact the appropriate non-degree advisor for the major or program that you plan to reapply to in a future semester. Students should take into account academic expectations for readmission, outstanding academic requirements, financial implications, financial aid and scholarship eligibility, and realistic timelines for potential readmission. We want to ensure that you understand your options and are intentional and successful during your time away from UConn.

Academic Expectations for Readmission

Review the readmission criteria for the specific school/college you plan to apply to, below. If you plan to apply for readmission at a regional campus, review the criteria for the campus you plan to apply to, as well.

    • These are minimum requirements for readmission and do not guarantee readmission after academic dismissal.
      • Students must complete courses that will show progress toward their desired degree plan or major; typically, this includes general education requirements and/or major requirements.
      • Regional campus students may also be subject to the minimum readmission expectations of their school/college.
      • For more information about completing academic coursework in preparation for readmission, visit Non-Degree Study (Coursework after Dismissal)
    • If you are currently enrolled in courses that you want to have considered in the readmission process, provide an unofficial copy of your transcript as soon as grades have posted to your academic record. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation of your readmission application.

Minimum course credit and/or grade expectations for academic readmission after dismissal for each school/college and regional campus are shared below.

Academic Center for Exploratory Students

Students seeking readmission to UConn via ACES must successfully complete at least six college-level credits after being dismissed. All courses must be completed with a grade of "B" or higher.

Readmission via the ACES pathway often includes (but is not limited to) students exploring potential majors, those in pre-professional programs (e.g., pre-education; pre-Social Work), and students who plan to apply to another UConn major or program requiring an internal or competitive admissions process (e.g., Fine Arts; Nursing).

Students readmitted to ACES after academic dismissal are expected to actively engage with ACES advisors regarding their academic pathway and major selection process during their semester of readmission. Readmitted students should expect to remain in ACES for at least one semester following readmission to the university or until they have met the readmission requirements of their intended school/college, major, or program of interest.

For more information about ACES, visit ACES Frequently Asked Questions.

Reach out to aces@uconn.edu with questions regarding academic requirements for readmission as an ACES student.
